Guitars -- Temporary Art at the Tucson International Airport

The Tucson International Airport (TIA) features a nice variety of both permanent and temporary art exhibits.  I recently ran into this fine collection of cardboard guitars in a temporary exhibit of art created by students at Luz Guerrero Early College High School.

Pegasus at the Tucson International Airport

Pegasus

Tucson International Airport (TIA) has some very nice art if one takes the time to wander around a bit.  I snapped this one with my trusty G12 while waiting for an arrival last week.   This sculpture is by Barbara Jo McLaughlin and is made out of fiberglass, copper, rebar, and bondo sign enamel.  Nicely done!

[New to me: #14, I finally took the time to look at some of the art exhibits at Tucson International, including the rotating temporary art exhibition (more on that later).]

Tucson Water Festival

I shot this picture today at the Armory Park Center looking out a door window, through a fence, at a wall mural.  I like the way everything came together for this shot.

I really enjoyed the music and dance performances at the Tucson Water Festival: Synergy of Art, Science, and Community.

Here are a few pictures of a very cool and energetic dance performance by the Tucson Arts Brigade Dance Theater Troupe in collaboration with Aztec dance group Danza Mexica Cuauhtemoc.

This man led the audience in a very fun and vigorous dance -- my legs were tired!

Great event, lots of great music, good people, community.   It was a shame that today's rain festival put a damper on the Solar Rock Festival and Cyclovia, but fitting that the Water Festival went full stream ahead.  Great day!

[New to me: (#13) attended the Water Festival in Tucson]

Elvira's Restaurant - Tubac, Arizona

A friend and I went down to Tubac, AZ today to browse art galleries (always a fun way to spend a day) and stopped in for a great lunch at Elvira's Restaurant, a very cool Mexican food restaurant with an incredible interior.

 Glass raindrops and... Wrestling masks?

Ah, great week to be on vacation from work...

[new to me: #12 ate at Elvira's Restaurant in Tubac for the first time, certainly not the last.]

here's looking at you

I took this shot in December 2011 looking up at a winter sky at the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum (Lincoln, MA).  I love this place.   You can see a picture of the full sculpture back in 2010 on my earlier blog post.

Fords on Fourth Ave

I went down to the Fords on 4th Avenue show this morning expecting to find shallow water flowing across the street to wade or drive through, but alas, no fords to be found.  They couldn't have meant a fjord show, being this far from the sea?  So I settled on taking pictures of a bunch of the cool cars that happened to be parked along the street with their hoods open for some reason...

Arizona Animal Fair 2012

Here a few pictures I doggedly pursued this morning at the Arizona Animal Fair at Reid Park.  There were performances, demonstrations, loads of dog (and animal) advocacy organizations, and a lot of shelter/adoption/rescue organizations talking about what they do and showing animals they have up for adoption.  The stylish greyhound above was from the Southern Arizona Greyhound Rescue.

A champion Frisbee team put on an impressive demonstration, including an incredible back flip catch.  Yes, the dog landed just fine.

 An agility / trials demonstration

 Dance performances...

Working dog demonstrations from several law enforcement and border patrol agencies.

Lots of socializing...  I think the dogs in attendance were having an even better time than the people -- they seemed more eager to introduce themselves to each other.

so many things to look at and smell...

These three clearly thought the interesting action was not in the direction that their chauffeurs were facing...

a good day for a little shade, I should have worn something myself

a whole different world going on down here
